What athletic facility improvements are included within the recent millage?
The bond will cover a complete renovation of the current footprint of the locker room complex including boy’s and girl’s varsity locker rooms and boy’s and girl’s PE locker rooms.
Why do we need this Team Room?
1) The current footprint of the locker room complex is far too small to comfortably accommodate the number of student athletes we have per season.
2) The team room will create instruction space for team meetings, coaches meetings and film study. It will create classroom space for PE classes and meeting space for groups and clubs from the school and community.
3) The team room will also allow for the meeting space designed into the locker room renovation to be used for additional, larger lockers. This will create more space and far less congestion in the varsity locker rooms.
4) The team room will include storage space for uniforms.
Why isn’t this covered in the recent bond renovation?
After the defeat of the 2011 millage the school embarked on a very thorough evaluation of the millage defeat. They asked the community what they would be willing to support in regards to facility upgrades for our schools. Based on the community response it was determined that any additions to our high school athletic complex would not be supported and in fact could “torpedo” any plan put in front of the community for a vote.
The school could not ignore these feelings regardless of the dire need of more space for our athletic complex so consequently they did as much as they feel they could.
